The player that had been synonymous with coach Tim Cone in the past several years is Joe Devance. And that partnership is in jeopardy after the team and Joe agreed to relegate him as unrestricted free-agent.
If a player is an unrestricted free-agent, any team can offer a contract to him and the player can accept that, without interference by his current ball club.
But, will he leave Ginebra? Or the much better question is, will he breakaway from coach Tim Cone?
According to the team, the answer is no. They made a prearrangement with Joe that he will not entertain any offer from other teams.
The franchise decided to bring him down to free-agency due to the foot surgery that he underwent in the offseason.
It seems like he could missed the entire Philippine Cup so it is a good decision for Ginebra to relegate him and use the extra roster spot.
Even with the prearrangement deal, the risk of losing him is still there. But, knowing the connection of Devance to Cone, it is really hard to see him leave the greatest PBA coach of all time.
