Does Coach Alex Compton Deserves to Keep His Job?

Eleven. That is the number of conferences that coach Alex Compton handled for the Alaska Aces.

Zero. That is the number of championships that they managed to get in that span.

Three. That is the number of the Finals appearance of the red and white squad, and each time, they stumbled against the San Miguel Beermen.

The question now is, is that a resume of a successful coach? Maybe the more appropriate question is, is that a resume that deserves one more chance?

With the continued silence from the Alaska camp, their answer to that question, is a resounding yes.

How about you?

RECENT RUN

In the last five conferences, Alaska failed to reach the semifinals. Is that acceptable for a line-up that have Calvin Abueva, Jayvee Casio, Sonny Thoss, Chris Banchero and Vic Manuel?

Maybe the answer is yes, if we consider the fact that injuries to a few of them, had been a part of each conference of Alaska.

Maybe, if the team becomes healthy, they will finally break that semifinals drought?

In their run this 2018 Philippine Cup, they unearthed a 7-games winning streak at the start of 2018. And in that run, the Aces was the best team in the league.

Alaska changed their playing style, by focusing more on scoring buckets, as they ended up as the top scoring team in the conference. They also have the fourth best offensive rating.

Their defense did not drop that much, due to their ability to force turnovers.

Overall, the team was a great offensive team, that is aggressive on defense.

STYLE

One of his famous schemes, is his playing-time distribution. It is basically a lite-version of the Yeng's playing-time distribution.

One of my biggest problem about it, is that it limits the playing time of a Calvin Abueva. I strongly believe that, that scheme has shackled some of the potential of Calvin Abueva.

My other problem about it, is the fact that unlike coach Yeng, coach Alex has failed to find or develop starting caliber players with it.

So, should he continue that style?

WILL YOU REPLACE HIM?

If you are going to decide, will you replace him?

For me, I will let him finish the season. Alaska is not playing that bad. If they can bring the right import that will finally complete this franchise, they could finally win another crown.
