Will Terrence Romeo Change?

When TNT acquired Terrence Romeo, I was optimistic that coach Nash Racela will be able to reach him and make him change for the better.

Unfortunately, he did not. Maybe, coach Nash is doing it one step at a time.

During this 2018 Commissioner's Cup, Romeo is averaging 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 20.8 minutes of play. The 4.3 number is the one that stands out. If you convert that to 36 minutes of play, you will get 7.4.

Terrence Romeo is looking to create for others, more than he did in Globalport. TNT run beautiful set plays that forced Romeo to pass the ball. Having great three-point shooters around should also encourage him to make kickout passes.

But in terms of being a chucker, Romeo did not change a bit. Do you know the reason why Terrence is only producing 12.7 points per game? He is only shooting 36% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc.

Yes, atrocious numbers.

When you watched him play for a whole game, I think you will see him go for isolation plays against his main defender and with the defense completely set!

Isolation plays work, but to do it against the defender that was tasked to stop you and with a fortress behind him is suicidal.

Terrence will try it three to four times a game and usually, he will connect on one shot.

One more thing that made his isolation plays cringy is the fact that he always pull-up from the midrange! Pull up midrange shot is the most inefficient shot in basketball!

When Terrence play through the system, moving and breaking the defense right away and trying to drive to the basket and willing to pass, they play better.

I hope Terrence realize that he doesn't need that inefficient isolation plays to prove that he is a great scorer.

He wants to do isolation plays? At least force a switch and take advantage of worse defenders. Or, he can at least drive to the basket.

He badly needs to cut the most inefficient shot from his arsenal of moves!

I hope Terrence change. For the future of the league and Philippine basketball.
