Cancel culture is easily one of the worst thing that the social media has created. We saw a lot of it in the latest elections and I think it is an act that is not really productive, overall.
So, the moment that I read a news stating that Jalen Green of the Houston Rockets dismissed the possibility of playing for our national team, I already know that Filipinos will be commenting to suggest cancelling the young phenom.
And it did happen. Some said that the guy is not patriotic. Others commented that Pinoys should not vote him for the All Star of the NBA.
All of those guys do not understand the reason why he cannot play for Gilas.
Technically, he cannot be allowed because he already represented the USA. So, even if he wants to, the process may even be harder than that of Jordan Clarkson.
And about the comment about patriotism, I hope you realize that he is half Filipino and half American.
Choosing the Philippines means he is not patriotic then for the USA! In short, him being a half-half nationality is a blessing and a curse at the same time.
He has two nations to choose from but at the expense of being hated by the nation that he did not choose.
What will not change though is the desire of Jalen to be a pride of the Philippines. He is proud of it and he will do everything so that the world will also be proud about our nation.
So, if you hate him after reading the headlines. Please change your mind and let us continue to support our fellow Filipino.
