PBA Free Agency: Ginebra signed a young guard!

Donald Gumaru's path to the PBA may have been lengthy, but it ultimately paid off as he secured a contract with Barangay Ginebra for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Impressing the Ginebra coaching staff during the pre-season On Tour, the 31-year-old guard from Arellano University earned his spot on the Kings' Season 48 roster.

Undrafted from the 2021 PBA rookie pool, Gumaru previously played in the MPBL with the Sarangani Marlins alongside Kyt Jimenez.

His breakthrough came when he joined Barangay Ginebra’s 3x3 team, contributing to the franchise's first two leg titles in the half-court game.

Gumaru's inclusion in the Kings' On Tour campaign was due to the absence of several regular players, leading to coach Tim Cone taking notice of his skills.

Cone highlighted Gumaru's tenacity on defense and sharp shooting ability, emphasizing his potential impact on the team.

The decision to sign Gumaru also factored in uncertainty surrounding the health condition of LA Tenorio, despite the veteran guard being declared cancer-free. Cone emphasized Gumaru's resemblance to Tenorio's style of play.

Can Gumaru be the successor to LA Tenorio?

I doubt it but we have seen crazier things in the league.
