I am pretty sure that you have read some articles and even podcasts and Youtubers that talk about the potential negative impact of the Unrestricted Free Agency on the parity of the league.
The parity of the league has been the biggest issue of the PBA in this century. It started once the successful franchises of the 90s started to leave the league, leaving the San Miguel Corporation alone on the totem pole.
Fortunately, the MVP group arrived and currently challenging them for superiority. A duopoly is better than a monopoly but the problem in parity is still there.
Nevertheless, I saw a very possible scenario where the power of the San Miguel Corporation and the MVP group in the PBA will be challenged.
I am talking about the East Asia Super League. How can EASL be the key to parity?
EASL will be a region-wide competition. And for a league that focuses on marketing products, the allure of being showcased to different countries will be there.
EASL will start this year. Although, it will still be around October. Now, what I hope the big Philippine companies will see, will be the outpouring of support for the teams that will represent the PBA.
That way, the big companies like SM, Jollibee, Emperador and others can see that the marketing reach now of the PBA, could be much bigger.
And that the fan-mindset now of the PBA fans will be bent because Pinoy-mentality will dictate that they will support a Pinoy team that will compete in an international competition.
