PBA Trade Rumors: Phoenix will trade their starting PG?

The PBA rumor mill never sleeps, even during the Holy Week break. The latest firestorm centers on Phoenix Fuel Masters’ breakout rookie Evan Nelle, and as usual, veteran insider Snow Badua is the one holding the match.

The rumor? That despite his spectacular play, Nelle might be headed to the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) umbrella—specifically to the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots.

The Numbers: Why Phoenix Should Keep Him

Let’s look at the cold, hard logic first. In the ongoing 2026 Commissioner’s Cup, Evan Nelle isn't just "playing well"—he’s evolving into a franchise cornerstone under Coach Charles Tiu. The stats tell a story of a young guard who has completely adjusted to the pro pace:

  • Minutes: 24.3 MPG

  • Scoring: 11.0 PPG

  • Playmaking: 5.3 APG (Top tier among locals)

  • Defense: 1.8 SPG

Nelle has become the engine of the Phoenix perimeter. In a league where elite local point guards are the rarest currency, why would a team struggling with a 3-8 record trade away the one bright spot of their future?

The Snow Badua "Receipts"

Snow Badua’s recent post is particularly biting. By tagging Phoenix GM Paolo Bugia and Governor Atty. Raymund Zorilla as "Team BuRaOt," Badua is implying that the management has been less than transparent about the trade's reality. His comment—"Tinatanggi daw nila yan dati eh. Resbahan ko na bago maipasa sa SMC"—suggests that while the "formal" denials are out, the groundwork for a move to Magnolia is already laid.

Back in January, Badua had already teased the move, jokingly calling Nelle a "freeman" and wishing him "Godspeed" to Magnolia. Seeing it resurface now—just as the Commissioner's Cup trade deadline looms—gives it a lot more weight than a standard "fake news" clickbait post.

The Magnolia Perspective

From Magnolia’s side, the logic is flawless. They need a long-term successor to their veteran backcourt. Pairing Nelle with the likes of Jio Jalalon or even potentially acquiring him in a package involving Paul Lee (as other rumors suggest) would solidify their guard rotation for the next five years.

The Verdict: Hard to Believe, but Harder to Ignore

You’re right to be skeptical. It makes zero basketball sense for Phoenix to let go of a breakout star who is already producing elite numbers. Trading Nelle would be a massive blow to the "Fuel Masters" rebuild.

However, we’ve seen this movie before in the PBA. When the "Big Three" conglomerates come calling for a young star, logic often takes a backseat to "business." If Nelle is indeed "passed to SMC," it would confirm every fear the fans have about parity—and every rumor Snow Badua has been "resbahan" for months.
