Trade Analysis - Gilas Cadet Swap

If you are following the Gilas program, you should know that Gilas cadets are not allowed to be traded. But, according to Mr. Marcial, there was a clause in the agreement that stated that Gilas Cadet can be traded to each other.

So, this AVO for Pessumal trade is real and legal!

SMB-GBP
SMB get Von Pessumal
GBP get Arnold Van Opstal

The trade is fair. Both rookies remains to be good prospects with good and intriguing potential.

TEAM ANALYSIS
San Miguel Beermen

I was not a big fan of them getting Arnold in the Cadet draft. They don't need a bigman because they already have the best bigman/player in the league. There is no point in brewing up a back-up. So, this trade corrected that mistake.

The Beermen loves shooter and Von had been a sniper in the last several years. He is proving that this season with his 39.1% shooting from the outside. One of Alex, Ross and Marcio will regressed soon, so brewing a replacement now is an excellent decision.

Globalport Batang Pier

I also love the move for the Batang Pier. Van Opstal is a legit 6'7 with above average athleticism. The skills is not yet there but in the PBA, a bigman doesn't need to be skilled to left an impact. I love the fact that he will play with Bradwyn Guinto and Sean Anthony.

Guinto is a good post-up player and good in boxing out. Sean is the all-around hustler. If done correctly, he can learn a lot of things from those two and he could end up as the hybrid of the two.

Losing the shooting of Von will hurt but bigmen are still the bread-and-butter of this league.
