Hoop Talk with Sir RJ: All about the top of the 2017 Rookie Draft!

We want to talk with the PBA aficionados. And, fortunately, we found one with one of our avid readers, Mr. RJ Magan Jr.

Someone who is simply a fan of the league and Philippine basketball, in general. Join us, as we chat our way through the top of the draft!

PBATalks: Good day sir. Thank you for your time. Usapang 2017 draft po tayo! Umpisahan po natin sa taas. Is KIA dumb if they will not choose Standhardinger?

Sir RJ: Yep. Unless they find a way to trade Revilla for a  big man then pick Ravena to be their new point guard

PBATalks: In a way,  you are saying that Standhardinger is not the hands down best prospect of the draft? Depends din talaga sa situation

Sir RJ: Yep. But if Kia doesn't find a way to get that big man through trade Standhardiger is the easy answer
You saw how well Ravena played in the Fiba Champions Cup

PBATalks: Regarding Ravena. Is he overhype o sakto lang?

Sir RJ: Sakto lang. Actually Romeo got more attention compared to Ravena  coming into the draft
Not to mention Ravena is a better all around player than Romeo

PBATalks: Do you mean entering the draft, Ravena is much better than Romeo?

Sir RJ: Yes sir. Romeo is too one dimensional when he entered he knows only to score. While Ravena is more of a true pg who can pass, defend and score
Ravena for me is a bigger version of Tenorio
Younger and bigger

PBATalks: Wait? Ravena can defend? I never saw enough to say that

Sir RJ: At least he is a better defender than Romeo

PBATalks: Let us go back to Standhardinger.
So, is Ravena that good that made Standhardinger not a surefire #1 pick or is it, Standhardinger is just not that good to be the surefire #1 pick?
Sir RJ: I think its both. We haven't seen enough of Standhardinger especially as the go to guy that why he has questions still
Then Ravena ballin out on Fiba Champions Cup just closes the gap with Stand

PBATalks: How about the defensive and rebound ing impact of Stand?

Sir RJ: Very solid. Would love to see more block shots from him in terms of rebounds not a leaper but he rebounds with timing
Can't wait to watch his match up against Gregzilla and The Kraken

PBATalks: Can he win those match-ups?

Sir RJ: There's a chance.
Can we talk about the players after Ravena and Stand?
PBATalks: I can see him winning those match-ups because he is more agile.
Yes! Who is your #3 guy, as of now?
Sir RJ: If the 3rd team that would be picking would be Blackwater. I would say Toto Jose.
Yes they should pick Jose over Teng.

PBATalks: Wow. You are just being bias, right? Jose is undersize and his post game is not even average!

Sir RJ: Yes I know. But with the departure of Art Dela Cruz they don't have a PF. Jose would be that guy. If they pick Teng he would not have enough playing time with Maliksi, DiGregorio, and Belo as the main wing players.
Yes I know Jose is under size and his post game is not that great. But he is the 2nd best bigman in this draft.

PBATalks: I get it. But you are not saying that Jose is the better prospect than Teng?

Sir RJ: Nah. Blackwater just need to draft through need not to draft the better player
With that Teng would go to Phoenix
Wright and Teng as a wing combo would be scary

PBATalks: Teng can play PG. DiGrgorio can shoot. Teng with Maliksi and DiGregorio looks awesome too.

Sir RJ: Teng can't play point. He is a score first player
There will be less ball movement if he's the pg

PBATalks: He averaged more than 4 assists in the D League.

Sir RJ: But did he play PG there?
He is not the pg of the team

PBATalks: Which makes him more enticing, right. A wing player who can control the offense

Sir RJ: But not a pg.

PBATalks: You don't think he can morphed into a PG?

Sir RJ: Nah. He is perfect at the wing. SG probably. Needs to improve his outside shot

PBATalks: To end this first installment.. Between the four most popular names in the draft, who is the most underrated?

Sir RJ: I think it would be Toto Jose. Knowing what I can have with the other three I think Jose will surprise some people. A very hardworker though he is under size he makes up to it with effort. Reminds me of a Vic Manuel.
Thanks for this opportunity.

There you go guys! I hope you enjoy it! Any comment about our discussion?
