Trade Analysis - STAR-GBP: Perfect exchange of rookies

It seems like Globalport and Star worked together in the 2017 PBA draft to secure the draftees that they want. At first glance, Star seems like they were loading up their frontline, but it was actually for Globalport. So, let us check how the two teams scored.

STAR
Received: Robert Herndon (#6) Gian Abrigo (4th round)
Sent: Lervin Flores (#9) Joseph Gabayni (#14) Julian Sargent (#16)

This is all about Herndon. I think, Star knows that Rain or Shine or Phoenix will not let Robbie fall to them at #9 so they really need to make this trade. Giving up #9, #14 and #16 pick is fine if you will get a high upside and immediate impact in Robbie.

The Wing is the weakest position of Star. Paul Lee is playing there, together with Dela Rosa and Ramos. Herndon brings athleticism, playmaking and versatility in that position.

Grade: A

GLOBALPORT
Received: Lervin Flores (#9) Joseph Gabayni (#14) Julian Sargent (#16)
Sent: Robert Herndon (#6) Gian Abrigo (4th round)

Before even the draft, I always thought about how good the fit of Flores is on Globalport. Nobody has entered the draft touted as Blake Griffin of the Philippines which emphasize the uniqueness of Flores. Globalport now have a savvy young frontline of Bradwyn Guinto and Flores. A banger and a flyer.

On the other hand, Gabayni is also a big who plays down low. And of course Sargent is a proven defender on the amateur rank. Add those three together for the value of the #6 pick and you will see that Globalport also wins this trade.

Grade: A

I think, the loser of this trade is no doubt the other teams.
