The stand-off between the two coalition in the PBA is still on-going. The operation had not stalled but no resolution had been found.
And I do believe, majority of the fans are really hoping for one conclusion of this drama, a new commissioner.
Barring any eligibility requirement, may I post my intent of claiming that critical position.
I am pretty sure nobody knows me at all, so instead of focusing on who I am, I will just lay-out the kind of PBA that I believe, this country will embrace.
INSIDE THE COURT
NO HARM, NO FOUL - I will return the game-calling that the Filipinos had been accustomed to. From Barangay leagues up to amateur cups, petty fouls are just being let go. That is one of the hallmarks of the Filipino brand of basketball.
And the majority of the fans, love that.
PENALTIES - I will make a more formal valuation of penalties than what the current regime is doing. Like, if hits in the heads that results to concussion will have a higher fine than a hit in the head that don't result to injuries.
TRADING
TRADING PARTNERS - The same two companies cannot be involve in four trades, in two years span. Meaning, SMC teams can only trade with Kia three times, from November 27, 2017 to November 27, 2019.
TOP 3 PICKS - Top 3 pick players should play a season with the team that drafted them.
CONSECUTIVE 1ST ROUND DRAFT PICKS - A team cannot trade consecutive draft picks. If that is implemented today, Kia will not be able to trade their 2018 1st round pick.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
TWO CONFERENCE FORMAT:
#1 All Filipino Cup: The elimination round will be double round-robin. Top 8 teams will enter the quarterfinals. #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 will be best of fives. The #1 vs #8 and #2 vs #7 will be best of five but the top 2 seed already has a 2-0 lead. Meaning, they have a thrice to beat advantage.
Semifinals and Finals will be best of 7.
#2 Fiesta Cup: The grand plan will be to link-in with professional leagues of other countries, creating an international cup.
For example, we will be able to connect with three other leagues. Each league will need to have four representatives in the playoffs.
Meaning, 16 teams will comprise the playoffs. They will be divided into groups of four, with each group playing on the country of one league. It will be a round-robin with the top 2 entering the quarterfinals.
The top 1s will be ranked according to their elimination round performance as well as the top 2s.
The Quarterfinal will be best of 3. Semifinals will be best of 5. Finals will be best of 7. Home and away format.
EXAMPLE:
P - represents Philippines
J - represents Japan
K - represents Korea
A - represents Australia
Numbers - represents their rank in the elimination round
They will be group in to:
Group 1: P1, J2, K3, A4 (Will play in the Philippines which will be represented by the top rank PH team)
Group 2: A1, P2, J3, K4 (Will play in Australia)
Group 3: K1, A2, P3, J4 (Will play in Korea)
Group 4: J1, K2, A3, P4 (Will play in Japan)
MAKE SENSE?
This two-conference format should put the Filipino fans on their toes and provide two different taste of competition. The All-Filipino Cup will quenched our longing for the fullest taste of Filipino brand of basketball. The Fiesta Cup will give us the feel for an NBA type of league.
With the uniqueness of the two, winning the crown will be way more meaningful than today. If I ask you which team won the 2015 NBA title, you will right away answer, Golden State Warriors. How about the 2015 Commissioner's Cup?
Hard, right? That is the negative effect of having too many crowns at stake. It DEVALUES it.
THE DRAFT
Rookie Contract: We will be having a rookie-scale contract. Although, we will give the option to the rookies to accept a two years deal or a three years deal.
Right to Match: After the rookie contract of the player, the team that drafted him has the right to match any offer for him. Any offer will also be 2 years, minimum.
Draft Order: The order will be decided by the aggregate ranking of the teams in the two conference. But, these two rules will be implemented.
#1 No team can be the #1 in the order, on back-to-back years.
#2 No team can be in the top 3 picks in 4 of five consecutive years.
OTHER DEVELOPMENT
#1 More games will be played on the province.
#2 More games will be played on the Philippine Arena.
#3 We will have an annual stakeholders meeting.
MOST IMPORTANT RULE TO BE IMPLEMENTED
A team that will not reach the playoffs in seven straight conferences will be put on sale. The highest bidding team will win.
