Season 43 Top Breakout Candidates: Allein Maliksi

One of the things that makes a season special is the breaking out of a player into a full-blown starter or even to a capable star.

Last season, we saw Baser Amer finally make the Meralco fans thankful for drafting him. We also witness the rebirth of Kevin Alas.

This season, this are my top candidates for a breakout season.

#18 Allein Maliksi
BLACKWATER ELITE

Remember his very controversial post in twitter? With what he showed in the past few seasons, we could conclude now that he did deserve an opportunity.

In his four seasons, Allein never managed to averaged double figure in scoring. But, one thing was very apparent. He can shoot threes. The guy never shot worse than 35.6% from the three-point line.

And last season, Purefoods finally gave him plays and he did deliver. In the Philippine Cup, he produced 16.5 points, in 52.3% shooting from the floor and 47.1% from beyond the arc. That 47.1% was the 6th best mark in that conference.

But of course, those five in front of him did not average more than 13 points. In short, Maliksi is more than just a scorer. He is an efficient scorer.

When Blackwater traded for him and made him the ace player of their team, he erupted. He scored 19 points per game in 52% FG! With a few months of practicing with the Elite and with better mastery of their system, we should expect him to maintain those numbers!

Maliksi is finally leaving his dream. He is the main scorer of Blackwater. They will look for him in crunchtime. Their opponents will always gameplan for him.

It is time for him to stand-up or shut-up!

  1. He is only a spot up shooter.A one dimensional player no defense at all.For this reason he was traded by Star Hotshots even to two bench players..
