Season 43 Top Breakout Candidates: Calvin Abueva

One of the things that makes a season special is the breaking out of a player into a full-blown starter or even to a capable star.

Last season, we saw Baser Amer finally make the Meralco fans thankful for drafting him. We also witness the rebirth of Kevin Alas.

This season, this are my top candidates for a breakout season.

#8 Calvin Abueva
ALASKA ACES

We all know that he is a legit All-Star. Capable of running against any starting five. But, we also have been waiting for something much bigger, much nastier. We have been waiting for Calvin Abueva to finally reap a way to a top-2 player conversation!

There is no doubt that the career averages of Calvin Abueva will amaze anyone. He is producing 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steal and 0.7 block. He is no doubt a stat-filler. One of the few players that can legitimately say that he can do anything on the court.

But, in the era of the Kraken and the Blur, that is not enough. The Beast needs to find a way to bring out the Beast inside the Beast.

And I am hoping this will finally be the year.

I am hoping that we will finally see him play like the Beast for three conference, not just one or not even two! I am hoping that he will finally force Coach Alex Compton to play him more than 30 minutes a game.

And I am hoping that his all-around game will force the hands of the MVP-voters to write a name that will not start with letter "J".

Do I sound like the biggest Calvin Abueva fan? Actually I am not. I am just a PBA fan who saw a guy that is capable of doing that.
