2018 Most Improved Player: The Rise of the Other Giants!

Other than the Most Valuable Player award, the Most Improved Player award could be the second most coveted award by a team.

Why? No team will say "no" to player improvement. So, how much more for a player to be regarded as the player who advanced his game, the most?

So, this 2018, let us see the top 5 candidates for this plum.

#5 Ian Sangalang
My favorite trait of Ian is his feel. I seldom see him at the wrong place when they are running plays. I just hope their point guards and playmakers can look for him, more. When they run a play through him at the post, you can see the maturity in his style.

His scoring output per game, is up by 4.6 points. His defense is not yet that solid, but the effort is already there.

#4 Troy Rosario
After a splendid rookie-season, everyone anticipated Troy to breakout in his 2nd year. It did not happen, but the development is in a good pace. His 3FG% is up to 40% and the guy is looking better as a power forward.

With his height, Rosario is really bound to be a primary Power Forward, instead of an versatile forward. His rebounding is now up to 10.4 rebounds, 5th best in the league.

#3 Mac Belo
Belo is starting to thrive as an off-ball shot-creator of Blackwater. His efficiency from beyond the arc is not yet admirable, but attempts also matters. The more attempts, with his 31% efficiency, the more he attracts his defender. Which will result to better spacing.

His defense is also getting better. He is the glue-guy of the defense of the Elite. He is there to make sure, that their formation will force a bad shot. And his steals per game is up by 0.6.

#2 Kelly Nabong
I know. Nobody expected Kelly to reach the numbers that he is currently producing. But, we did saw him adding different skills into his game. From post moves, defensive positioning and now a three-point shot.

Globalport embraced him after his debacle with Meralco Bolts and now he is a difference maker. He is manufacturing 14.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 blocks, 41% FG and 32% 3FG. If he can sustain that in the playoffs, Don't expect the giants to abuse Globalport.

#1 JP Erram
From a back-up player in college, up to a discarded player in his early years in the pros, Erram has suddenly blossom into a legit MVP contender.

What? Am I crazy? Look at his numbers. 14.2 points, 13.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 3.0 blocks and 47% FG. Of course, his blocks stands out, because he is leading the league, by a mile. He is also the #1 rebounder. Yes, better than the Kraken!

Yes. Erram is now the best rebounder and the best rim protector in the league. That is quite a distinction. The combination of those two, has made Blackwater a must watch team on the rise. Why? Because they have the most dominant defensive player, anchoring their defense.
