2018 Post-Phil. Cup Top Prospect Grades: Alaska, San Miguel, Globalport

One of the most exciting thing in being a professional basketball fan is monitoring prospects. And today, we will continue our rundown of the top prospects, providing grades with what they exhibited in the All Filipino Cup.

Prospect - Maybe we have different definitions of a prospect. For me, they are the young players that are not yet fully develop or were not given enough opportunity to show us how concrete their ceiling is.

Globalport: Bradwyn Guinto
When I saw the rejected TNT-Globalport trade, the thing that really surprised me was the other name beside Terrence Romeo. What Bradwyn Guinto showed in his first two seasons was so surreal that it was hard to believe that they will trade him together with Romeo.

I think, Globalport realized that as in the recent rumor, Yousef Taha was now the bigman on the block.

So, was Guinto gold for Batang Pier this conference? Nope.

In 23.6 minutes of play per game, he was contributing 5.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 35.9% FG. His play was really bad and inconsistent.

In his best game against TNT, he posted 12 points and 10 rebounds. Not the best game that we anticipated but was still respectable.

I think, he was having a hard time adjusting into a new scheme that doesn't involve him that much. Now that imports will be playing in the next two conference, it is hard to see him salvaging this season.

Grade: E

Alaska: Jeron Teng

In a PBA draft, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. Alaska was lucky enough that the two teams above them, chose to fill out needs, instead of the best player available.

I thought Teng will enter the league, overrated, but actually he was very underrated. Majority saw him more of a handsome chucker instead of a freight train scorer.

The size and strength of Teng was predominant in his play. The good thing about him was, he  knew how to use his size.

In the Philippine Cup, he manufactured 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 44.3% FG. Not eye-popping but very promising and fulfilling.

I just hope, coach Alex will continue to give him opportunity to take advantage bad switches and romp up some more drives.

His future is bright, especially if he learns to make the right passes.

Grade: A

San Miguel: Von Pessumal

Von Pessumal did not do what he was supposed to do for the San Miguel Beermen. Out of 33 attempts, he was only successful in 8 of them. Not acceptable for a supposed marksman.

Other than that, his energy, grit and consistency was a great thing to see. It seems like, he will turn out to be a great 3-and-D player. And if he sustains his grit, he could be a respectable role player in the next several years.

One thing that he may need to do something about is his handles. If he can push it up, he could be more than a role player.

Grade: C
