2018 Com. Cup Finals Prediction: No! to Grandslam?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

This is it. The two teams with the most firepower ended up as the finalist of the 2018 Commissioner's Cup.

Just like last year, San Miguel Beermen is looking to complete a grandslam. While Ginebra will look to start their own dynasty under coach Tim Cone.

KEY FACTORS
Greg Slaughter
Assists
Christian Standhardinger

I still feel bad every time I look at the bench of San Miguel and see Standhardinger there. For them to have a top 20 player on their bench is just a game-changer. If Christian can play like a top 20 player for his 15-20 minutes appearance in the court, Ginebra will be in trouble.

Coach Tim Cone is known for moving the ball as much as possible. They will surely do that to find a good shot against a very big San Miguel line-up who has capable thieves. On the other hand, San Miguel has elite passers in Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross.

Lastly, Greg Slaughter is the ultimate weapon of Ginebra. I don't see a way that Ginebra can win if Greg plays bad. They need at least 16 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists from him.

Greg is on the right track with his respectable performance in the semifinals. He averaged 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

PREDICTION
I don't expect San Miguel to focus on the defensive end. With coach Tim at the helm, I expect Ginebra to come up with a good strategy in winning game 1.

I do not even expect a close game in this first match. Ginebra will show up with a better plan and play with more focus to get the first lead in the series.
