If Purefoods can trade a James Yap, why not a Marc Pingris?

On October 13, 2016, the most shocking trade in the history of the league happened. The Purefoods franchised swapped James Yap for Paul Lee.

It was one of a kind trade because nobody anticipated that happening.

Why should anyone anticipate the most popular player of the league traded? Purefoods did and value wise, they won that trade.

Now, there is another marquee name in the line-up that may still get back a hefty return. I am talking about Marc Pingris.

Marc should be one of the most well-known Filipino basketball players today. He was not only a great PBA player but he was also a vital piece of our national team for several years.

Currently, the Pinoy Sakuragi is out of playing court for at least four more months due to an ACL injury.

Actually, Pingris had been battling a lot of injuries in the last few years. Further decreasing his value to the franchise.

Even with his injury debacles and the daily increase in his age, Magnolia has kept him in the fold.

So, what are the possible reasons why Magnolia is willing to keep a popular player who has a lesser impact on the court, when they decided to trade the most popular one who was more effective back then?

Maybe, they are not receiving any acceptable package for Marc?

Or maybe, there was a non-basketball related reason why Purefoods traded James Yap in 2016?
