2018 Gov. Cup: The Three Coaches in the Hot Seat

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Coaches are the favorite scapegoats of franchises. Changing them will always provide a jolt to the franchise.

And for the upcoming 2018 Governors' Cup, these three coaches should really give their best if they want to retain their position.

#3 Blackwater - Bong Ramos
Blackwater is a patient franchise. They have shown that with coach Leo Isaac and with the way they are building their team. But once they get another blue-chip prospect in the upcoming draft, will they really entrust it to coach Bong who doesn't have the pedigree of a winner?

Poy Erram, Mac Belo, Raymar Jose, Michael DiGregorio and their 2018 1st round pick will be the deepest young core in the league. They will need a coach that can develop them and teach them how to win.

Is coach Bong that guy?

#2 San Miguel - Leo Austria
No matter what coach Leo said after their demise against Brgy. Ginebra, excuses should not be accepted. Even though Ginebra is also a loaded team, the difference between the firepower of Ginebra and San Miguel is still wide.

Coach Leo has led San Miguel to six titles but for them to fail to accomplish a grandslam in the last three seasons is a big letdown. It doesn't mean though that coach Leo is not a quality coach. It is more about the level of excellence that San Miguel is trying to achieve.

If coach Leo fails in this conference, I expect San Miguel fans to start a strong campaign to replace him.

#1 TNT - Nash Racela
Terrence Romeo. That acquisition is an indication that the higher-ups of the MVP group are looking for results. Watching the SMC teams dominate the league is a grueling experience for the management of TNT.

If coach Chot will be replaced from his post in the Gilas program, a return to TNT could be a good option. Let us not forget also that Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams are getting older. If TNT fails to reach the semifinals in this conference, it will be hard to keep coach Nash.
