PBA Draft Buzz: Bobby Ray Parks to Ginebra will not happen

When Ginebra managed to shock the PBA universe and defeat San Miguel, one guy was watching. That guy was undeniably the best amateur Filipino player in the country today.

He posted this tweet:

Yes. It is pretty obvious that Bobby Ray Parks wants to be a Gin King. The team is not only the most popular in the league, it could be the best-run franchise today with coach Tim Cone in town.

But for Ginebra fans out there, do not hope too much that they will get Bobby Ray Parks in the upcoming draft.

Why?

Parks will be one of the top 2 picks

I do not think there is a 2018 draft prospect out there who is better than Parks. I think Parks will be one of the most hype players to ever enter the draft.

After the first two conferences, Blackwater Elite and Columbian Dyip are the ones that are battling for the #1 pick.

If their management is wise, they should know by now that they do not have the capacity to make any noise in the Governors' Cup. So, the best thing for them to do is to tank it out in the last conference.

So, the only way for Ginebra to get Parks then is to trade for that #1 pick. But, do not count on it.

Why?

Remember the Standhardinger trade

Do not anticipate any trade involving the top 3 picks in the next few years. The effect of the Standhardinger trade is still being felt today. We are losing PBA fans every day because of the lack of parity in the league.

Any kind of package that Ginebra will send for a top 3 pick to get Parks will be rejected by the people unless it involves Greg Slaughter or Scottie Thompson.

Blackwater and Phoenix are not farm teams

The last obvious reason is this one. Phoenix is currently third in the running for the #1 pick. Is there a chance that their management is intelligent enough and out-tank Blackwater and Columbian in the Governors' Cup and steal the #1 pick?

If Blackwater or  Phoenix get Parks, do not expect them to trade Ray Parks to an SMC team. The Jeff Chan trade alone dictates that Phoenix wants value in any trade that they enter in.

Blackwater and Phoenix are not only independent franchises but they also have good young cores already. Adding Parks will surely lead both teams to a perennial contendership status.

So, if you are one of those Ginebra fans out there who is craving for Parks. Do not assume that you will surely get him in the 2018 draft.
