2018 Gov. Cup Best Player of the Conference Ranking: Call them local imports!

(c) PBA Media Bureau

With the injury to June Mar Fajardo, the Best Player of the Conference award is open for the taking. Without the Kraken, Christian Standhardinger has taken over. Is he the favorite?

Let us see.

#5 Calvin Abueva
Although his efficiency is still not very good, Abueva's other numbers are tantalizing enough to push him as one of the serious BPC contenders. He is putting up 13.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.0 blocks, 42% FG and 29% 3FG per game.

He is currently the 2nd best blocker in the league, next to their import, Eugene Phelps. There are only a few wings out there who can protect the rim. The guy is still a rebounding freak with his 9.8 boards in just 23.9 minutes of play!

#4 Marcio Lassiter
Super Marcio is rocking it from beyond the arc. He knocked 12 three-pointers in their first three games, which means in average, he is contributing four three-pointers a game! He is doing that with 44% clip.

The combination of effectiveness and efficiency from beyond the arc is the most important skill in basketball today. He is also contributing 4.0 rebounds and 4.33 assists with only 0.7 turnover per game.

#3 Stanley Pringle
The best point guard in Asia continues to dominate the backcourt of the PBA. He is the best local scorer so far in this conference and the 6th overall. He is putting up more points than the majority of the imports like Romeo Travis, Allen Durnham and etc.

He is jacking up 26.0 points per game with his efficiency at 51% FG and 39% 3FG per game. Yes, the guy is not only an effective scorer but he is also efficient. Add his 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game and you have the complete package of a guard.

#2 Chris Banchero
Finally, we have a point guard who wants to push the assists stats to the double-digit dimension. Banchero is averaging 9.5 assists per game and that is the best in the league. He is 1.5 better than the next one.

The guy is very good at breaking down the defense and he is very accurate with his passes. Overall he is manufacturing 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. His teammates trust him that he will make plays for them.

#1 Christian Standhardinger
It is still hard to accept that the PBA is letting the two best centers in the league to be in the same team. Standhardinger is as dominant as Fajardo in his way to producing 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 74% FG per game.

I think the combination of strength, grit, athleticism and his dribbling makes Christian hard to stop in getting into the rim. If he continues to shoot above 60%. Standhardinger should never look to pass the ball.
