Blackwater is wasting a big opportunity

I respect what Blackwater is doing in the Governors' Cup. They are still undefeated after beating TNT, San Miguel, Northport and Ginebra.

Yes, they already defeated the two squads that won championships this season. And of course, TNT still has one of the most loaded rosters in the league.

The fact that those games were close should legitimize them more as a team capable of winning.

But if you think about it, do you really trust them to survive the playoffs? They have an inexperienced core who will surely make costly mistakes in the playoffs. And in reality, the talent of their team is still lacking.

The play of JP Erram, Michael DiGregorio and John Pinto show that Blackwater could be one of the best squads in developing players. But, the talent of Michael and John may not still be enough to win the championship.

And with them winning games, they are going down in a more important ranking. The draft order. They currently have the worst aggregate rank. Which means they are bound to get the #1 pick.

And who is the guy that is forecasted to lead the 2018 draft? Bobby Ray Parks Jr.

Parks has the talent to challenge June Mar Fajardo for the MVP as early as his sophomore season. Yes, it is easy to say that Parks is overhyped but if you really scout his play, his basketball IQ has increased to a level that he knows what elite skills to use in different games.

He is the one guy that can really do it all.

So, can you imagine a core of Parks, DiGregorio, Pinto, Maliksi, Belo and Erram? That can be an elite squad on both ends of the court!

Belo and Erram have been a fantastic defensive duo. Add Parks and Blackwater will be a fortress that is hard to penetrate.

Pinto and DiGregorio have been fluid in running their offense. Add Parks and their offense will be more capable of doing more.

If they add Parks, their talent-level will reach the level of Ginebra.
