2018 Gov. Cup Import Ranking 2.0: A Historic Cast of Reinforcements

(c) PBA Media Bureau

It seems like this conference has one of the best casts of imports that we have ever seen. At least five of them should be considered an elite and return next season.

So, who is the best of them all? Let us run down the ranking.

#12 Terrence Watson
Rain or Shine has won back to back games but it is hard to point to Watson as a primary reason for their recent success. He is averaging 19.3 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 42% FG per game.

#11 Akeem Wright
I think Columbian Dyip was tanking. I cannot find a credible reason for keeping Wright, who is putting up 22 points, 12.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 36% FG per game if they cannot win games!

#10 Rashad Woods
Maybe, Northport is also tanking because it seems like they will finish the conference with Woods even though they will fail to enter the playoffs. Woods has respectable averages of 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 42% FG per game.

#9 Henry Walker
This now shows you how good the imports are in this conference. Walker is having a superb conference and is a big reason for the 4th best record of Blackwater. He is producing 25.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 50% FG and 37% 3FG per game.

#8 Romeo Travis
I know that this will hurt a lot of Magnolia fans out there because they are currently the top team. But, we are ranking the impact of imports here and I think Travis is just the 8th best. He is manufacturing 22.1 points, 15.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.4 steals, 44% FG and 27% 3FG per game.

Well rounded but not as good as the others. We do need to point out that Travis could be one of the best screeners in the league and that is not counted in the stat sheet.

#7 Marqus Blakely
Blakely has successfully returned to relevance in the PBA. Maybe, it is about his fit to the system of TNT. Blakely is averaging 24.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 65% FG per game. Efficiency is an important factor, especially for a player who is not shooting from beyond the arc.

#6 Mike Harris
I think Mike is the best import in the last two weeks. Overall though, Harris is just at the doorstep of the top 5. Harris is the best rebounder in this conference with 21.1 per game and 6th best in scoring.

#5 Allen Durnham
Here are the elite imports that I am talking about. I decided to put Durnham in the last spot because of the record of his team. That doesn't mean though that the Hulk's statline of 28.9 points, 17.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 50% FG is not impressive.

#4 Aaron Fuller
NLEX is clinging to one of the last playoff spots with the help of Fuller. Fuller is averaging 30.7 points, 17.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 54% FG per game. Fuller is at the 4th place because he has the worst net rating of -3.3 out of the top 4.

#3 Kevin Murphy
In 3 games, Murphy has been unstoppable! He is putting up 36.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 5.7 3PM and 50% 3FG! His outside shooting is the most terrifying! The guy is connecting in 5.7 threes with 50% efficiency. That is beyond elite! Can he sustain that beyond 3 games? Let us see.

#2 Justin Brownlee
Brownlee is as excellent as ever. His ability to hit all kind of shots still amazes me. His strength helps him finish against contact in the paint and his pull-up midranger feels like lay-up when he is in the zone.

#1 Eugene Phelps
Phelps will handle the top spot for the meantime because of the combination of the success of Phoenix and his numbers. Phelps is the 2nd best in points, blocks and rebounds, and has the 4th best net rating. Overall, he is averaging 32.6 points, 18.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 3.0 blocks and 52% FG per game.
