The Top 5 Local Frontcourt of the 2018 Gov. Cup

The injuries to June Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter gave me the curiosity to scrutinize the five best frontcourts of the 2018 Governors' Cup.

The frontcourt still rules the league. With elite imports who are very good at getting to the rim and have elite post games, the need for good bigs is magnified.

So, let us run down the top 5. The single requirement for a player to be considered is that he played at least four games.

#5 JP Erram & Mac Belo
Eram and Belo are the youngest duos in this list. Belo's playing time is down but he is still effective as he provides 7.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 35% 3FG per game. Erram is, of course, a double-double machine with his 12.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 1.3 steals and 45% FG per game.

Overall, this two are the best in terms of defense. Erram has a claim to the best rim protector plum and Belo is one of the rising lockdown defenders in the country.

#4 Japeth Aguilar & Aljon Mariano
Due to injuries to Joe Devance and Greg Slaughter, a new frontcourt was established in Barangay. Not as dominant as their other frontcourt combination but these two are still effective. Aguilar continues his torrid season with his 19.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 60% FG per game this Governors' Cup.

Mariano is also having his own breakout conference by averaging 9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 52% FG  per game. Mariano's versatility on both ends of the court is a big help to coach Tim.

#3 Sean Anthony & Moala Tautuaa
One of the silver linings of this conference for the Batang Pier is the good showing of their frontcourt. Moala is finally entrusted as the primary center and he is doing a fine job with his production of 13.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 54% FG per game.

Sean Anthony continues to be one of the most underrated bigs in the league. He is manufacturing 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.3 steals, 42% FG and 36% 3FG per game. He is an impact player in almost all the facets of the game.

#2 Calvin Abueva & Jason Perkins
This is the most modern frontcourt in the lists. Both players are capable of defending at least three positions, although Perkins could be burned by some small forwards. Jason Perkins has been the Mr. Efficiency of the season and for this conference, he averages 13.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 63% FG per game.

On the other hand, Abueva's impact on the defensive end this conference is much felt. His 1.6 blocks per game is the 2nd best in terms of the local players. He is also one of the best rebounders in the league and his shooting has been respectable this conference.

#1 Christian Standhardinger & Arwind Santos
Do not tell me you expected another frontcourt for the top spot? Even with the superb conference of Japeth Aguilar, Standhardinger is still the best center in this conference and it is not even close. His statline is 25.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 64% FG per game. He is the top local scorer in this conference and also one of the most efficient.

Santos is as consistent as ever. He is the top local rim protector and still one of the most effective three-point shooter, averaging 3.3 makes per game. Combine the two and I do not think any frontcourt out there, even with an import, can stop them.
