Trade Rumors: Magnolia rejected an offer for Sangalang

According to the primary source of trade rumors, Magnolia rejected the offer of a swap for their starting center, Ian Sangalang.

The source added that Magnolia is willing to trade for the slotman that was offered to them as long as it will not be for Sangalang.

The first question that we need to answer then is, who is the center that was offered for Ian?

I think the answer is obvious. It was Raymond Almazan. The source described the center as lanky which means lean or slender. And of course, Raymond is one of thinnest player in the PBA universe.

As of today, Raymond has not shown up to Rain or Shine, continuing the speculation that he is still looking for a trade.

If it was Almazan, Rain or Shine is smart to ask for a bigman in return. Elite bigs are the most precious type in the league. Centers basically control the hierarchy in the PBA universe.

The next question is, is Magnolia right in rejecting the trade?

I think the answer is Yes. Maybe, in terms of impact Sangalang and Almazan is just equal. Almazan's best skills of rim protecting and three-point shooting is as important as the positioning and post scoring of Ian.

What makes Sangalang more valuable is his age, three years younger than Almazan, and that he is a low maintenance guy. Unlike Raymond who is showing a lot of issues, personal and professional.
