2019 PBA MVP Race 1.0: Fajardo is not at the top

With a month into the season, we can now start talking about the race for the 2019 Most Valuable Player award.

June Mar Fajardo is aiming to get his sixth straight MVP award, which could lock him for the next century as the player to have the longest MVP streak in the league.

Why? Getting one is already hard, how much more about six?

Nonetheless, there is a good chance of voters' fatigue and with a new superstar landscape in the league and with the addition of Romeo to San Miguel, we may be having a different MVP by the end of the season.

#10 RR Pogoy

RR is currently averaging the third most points per game at 19.8, although his efficiency is not that good. He is also taking care of rebounds with 9.7 per game. The combination of his scoring and gritty defense gives him a good case to be part of this ranking.

#9 Japeth Aguilar
Aguilar has quietly become the most consistent player of coach Tim Cone. He is again their top scorer with 18.2 points per game in 51% shooting in the field. With his more sustained shot from the outside, Aguilar could be having a real shot this time.

#8 Chris Ross
The arrival of Terrence Romeo is a big threat to the playing time of Chris Ross. Ross will not easily give-up his starting guard spot as he is currently the #1 player in the conference in term of assists. Surprisingly, he is also reliable from beyond the arc this season, with 45% efficiency.

#7 Sean Anthony
Sean is the most underrated "Robin" in the league. He has been steady in stuffing the stat sheets every conference and this season is no exception. He is currently producing 20.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.8 steals and 44% FG per game.

#6 James Yap
Believe it or not but "Big Game" James is back to the spotlight as the ace offensive player of the league-leading Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. He is producing 14.3 points per game with 40% 3FG. If he will lead Rain or Shine to a championship, he will have a very good chance of grabbing another MVP plum.

#5 Marcio Lassiter
Marcio could be having his best shooting season in his career! In seven games, he made 30 three-pointers already, which means he is averaging 4.3 per game! It is not only about the volume but also about his mouth-watering efficiency of 48%!

#4 JP Erram
Erram has solidified himself as the top rim protector in the league. He is averaging 3.3 blocks per game, higher by 1.1 than the 2nd best. He has been much reliable also at the offensive end with 15.7 points per game and 41% 3FG.

#3 June Mar Fajardo
The Kraken is not "yet" leading the race after his slow start to the season. Nonetheless, he is still the leader in terms of rebounding, 11.7 per game, and fifth best in scoring, 19.1 per game. San Miguel has been running their offense through him with his dominant size and ability to make accurate post passes.

#2 Jayson Castro
This could be the last hurrah of The Blur and he is making sure that it will be worth it. Believe it or not but his first step is still the quickest in the league, helping him produced 18.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Castro has also been a consistent defender on the perimeter.

#1 Stanley Pringle
Pringle could turn out to be the unluckiest victim of the domination of Fajardo. If he is not on the era of the Kraken, I think Stanley should have won two MVPs at the minimum. Nonetheless, he has started the season on fire again, averaging the most points in the league with 22.5 per game with 60% 3FG!

He is actually out-shooting Marcio Lassiter with 4.5 three-pointers made per game and with much better efficiency. His 2.8 steals per game is also the 2nd best in the league.
