2019 PBA Phi. Cup: Early Trade Ideas for San Miguel, TNT, Blackwater

Correct me if I am wrong, isn't it talking about trades one of the most exciting and fascinating things to do in following professional basketball?

Thus, there is no wrong time scrutinizing some trade possibilities. I am already done with Ginebra, Meralco and Columbian.

It is time to talk about the next batch.

Blackwater - a 2020 1st round pick
Last offseason, Blackwater revealed their plan of forming a team that is anchored on UP alumni. They started by drafting Paul Desiderio in 2018. This 2019, none of the core players of UP are rumored to be joining.

There is a bigger chance that at least one or two of Juan Gomez de Liano, Ricci Rivero and Kobe Paras will be available for the 2020 draft.

So, if Blackwater wants to stay true to their plan, I would try to trade for a good 1st round pick in 2020. They have in-prime players like Allein Maliksi and Michael DiGregorio to make a deal.

San Miguel Beermen - Subtraction by addition
Even though the Beermen had a lot of injury issues, Beermen remained to be one of the super loaded teams in the league. Actually, it just showed how deep their lineup is. Von Pessumal and Kelly Nabong exhibited that they are actually starting caliber players.

So, what should they do then to improved their future? I think they need to trade one of their core players for a package centered at draft picks. There is a good chance that their talent alone can overcome any chemistry issues that will develop moving forward. But, clarifying the rotation now can go a long way in solidifying a clear path to success this season.

TNT Katropa - A young talent
With their three-point heavy scheme, I do not think TNT has a clear need for their title bid this season. Their real issue is father time. Jayson Castro, Ryan Reyes, Kelly Williams and Harvey Carey will succumb to him in the next three years.

Time has come to find replacements for them. If I am TNT, I will try to get Bobby Ray Parks Jr. because he is the most talented available young player right now. They can also talk to Rain or Shine who have some intriguing young studs.
