2019 PBA Phil. Cup - Early Trade Ideas for Phoenix, Northport, Rain or Shine

(c) PBA Media Bureau

We will continue our series of Early Trade-Ideas. Today, we will tackle the two teams at the top of the team standings.

What trades could improved Rain or Shine and Phoenix? And for Northport, which players should they target to fill-up a hole in their line-up?

RAIN OR SHINE
Rain or Shine has been one of the best franchises in terms of utilizing and maximizing their players. The product of that is a very deep roster that is pretty weakness-proof.

One thing that they may add is another wing-scorer. James Yap is having a vintage-scoring conference but trusting him to sustain it with his age is not a good decision. Thus, they should try another scorer who can take over from him once he falters.

Arwind Santos looks a pretty good fit with them. Unfortunately, San Miguel has never shown a sign that they are willing to exchange their old stars for younger players.

PHOENIX
Phoenix has a pretty glaring weakness inside. To cover that up, Phoenix played actively, creating havoc with their gang rebounding and in their defense. There are bigmen out there that they can acquire to fill-up their need and that will not change their current scheme.

I am talking about Marion Magat, Rodney Brondial, Jake Pascual and Jeepy Faundo. Of course, there is also a big name out there like Raymond Almazan. We should observe the playing time of Almazan. I do not think ROS kept him to play less than 20 minutes a game.

NORTHPORT
Batang Pier is in the middle of the pack. That means a good move can push them to the upper echelon. One type of player that they may want to add is a bigman who can hit three-pointers. Moala Tautuaa, Bradwyn Guinto, Lervin Flores and Joseph Gabayni are all capable bigs but none is reliable from beyond the arc.

Adding one will open up better driving-lanes for Sean Anthony and Stanley Pringle.
