The Favorite for the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup may not be SMB

Correct me if I am wrong but for the last 12 to 15 conferences, I think the favorite to win the championship has always been San Miguel Beermen.

That may change in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Why?

According to a report from Nelson Beltran of Philippine Star, Andray Blatche may serve as the import of NLEX Road Warriors.

That is possible due to the fact that the Commissioner's Cup will start around May while the China Basketball Association, where Andray currently plays, will finish around April.

The question now then is, is Andray Blatche that good that he will push NLEX over San Miguel as the favorite?

Did you watch what he did to Kazakhstan? He erupted for 41 points in 12/20 shooting, shot 5/10 from beyond the arc, shot 12/14 in the free-throw line, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished 3 assists, stole the ball 4 times and blocked 2 shots.

He could be the best foreign player to grace the PBA this 21st century!

His amazing blend of a vast array of offensive skills, defensive instinct and a high basketball IQ will make him unstoppable in the PBA.

Now, his skill level alone is not the only reason why NLEX will be the favorite.

It is also about his fit to the scheme of coach Yeng Guiao. Coach Yeng wants his bigmen to be good at shooting threes and to be good decision makers.

Blatche is elite at both.

What NLEX should fix before the 2019 Commissioner's Cup is their guard rotation. Ravena and Alas will not be there for them. They need to find at least one competent starting guard to help their oozing with talent frontline and wing.
