PBA Debacle: Was the Raymond Aguilar garbage time shot, a slap to coach Tim Cone's face?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Remember last March 3, 2019, when Alaska Aces dismantled Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel by 26 points?

Remember the three-point shot of Simon Enciso when the clock was already running out?

Remember coach Tim Cone who refused the handshake gesture of coach Alex Compton because of it?

Remember coach Alex Compton reminding coach Tim and the media about the quotient system?

And now coach Tim was the one who apologized after one of his players, Raymond Aguilar, took a shot and hit it when the game was already settled, pushing their lead to 13 instead of 11.

Imagine the feeling of standing for a principle and yet you failed to inculcate it to your subordinates or more specifically, players.

There are even some opposing fans out there who are questioning if that shot was really an accident or it was actually by design because Ginebra could possibly fall into a 3-way tie with TNT and San Miguel.

Nonetheless, the lesson here was clear. Raymond was so open on those last seconds because the opposing defenders failed to care. Or they simply give up.

Again, why are we penalizing the team that did their part to uplift the feeling of the team that actually failed in the game?
