2019 Com. Cup: Grading the import choices of Alaska, Rain or Shine, NLEX

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Instead of only two remaining import choices to grade, we added one more after NLEX replaced Tony Mitchell for not arriving right away after his last international stint.

So, how good were the choices of Alaska, Rain or Shine and NLEX? Let us see.

Alaska - Chris Daniels
Daniels is a veteran international competitor, playing in his 9th year already. He is not only a veteran but also a winner with two championships in the Korean Basketball League and even in the NBA G-League. In his last stint, Chris averaged 12.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 61% FG per game. He is an efficient inside operator and a solid defender. Without a credible outside shot, Alaska may have a hard time playing him with Vic Manuel.
Grade: C

Rain or Shine - Denzel Bowles
This is one of the most interesting choices because Bowles will be reunited with James Yap. Elasto Painters signed Denzel even though he was a failure in his last three stints, with only eight total games. We all know Bowles as an unstoppable force inside and a willing passer. With their centers capable of hitting three-pointers, Bowles will have a good amount of space to operate inside. I am not sure though if Bowles can even average 20+ points at this point of his career.
Grade: C

NLEX - Curtis Washington
Looking at the numbers of Curtis Washington, it is not encouraging. In his four international experience before 2018, Curtis failed to average double-digits in points. Although in Bahrain, he averaged 24.6 points, 53.9% FG, 15.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. NLEX may need him to replicate that in the PBA for them to have a good chance.
Grade: C
