2019 Post Phil. Cup: Who is the next PBA point guard to be traded?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

The point guard position is the most celebrated position in the PBA. From Jayson Castro to Maverick Ahanmisi, the importance of the position is well documented.

So, who could be the next floor general to wear a different uniform?

Let us check.

Meralco - Baser Amer

This is the easiest choice because Amer was supposed to be traded already last January. Unfortunately, the trade did not push through. Amer though was pretty bad last conference, averaging 11.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 37% FG and 30% 3FG per game. That could be the reason why trade may not happen at this conference because his value has decreased.

Ginebra - Sol Mercado
Looking back last season, Ginebra made a trade in the middle of the season. I expect that to happen again, especially after their disappointing dismissal last conference. Sol Mercado has been a reliable role player for them and still maintains legitimacy in the eyes of the league. Unfortunately, 17% from beyond the arc the last conference is not a good fit for Ginebra who badly needs shooters.

Rain or Shine - Maverick Ahanmisi
In the Rain or Shine scheme, it is hard to decipher who is the point guard but Ahanmisi has been dominating the ball for them. His inclusion here was the product of a rumor that I saw somewhere regarding Elasto Painters' willingness to let him go because of the good performance of Rey Nambatac and Kris Rosales last conference. With his size and good efficiency, Ahanmisi will surely get a good package back for Rain or Shine.
