PBA News: I think Terrence Romeo is serious about retiring

We have a lot of reasons to not take seriously what Terrence Romeo said yesterday. To simplify, he said that he may retire if San Miguel manages to pull-up a championship.

First, Terrence is still under contract for the entirety of this conference so he could be in for a legal matter if he decides to push through with retiring.

Other than that, the guy is only 27 years old. Love him or hate him, he is currently at the prime of his career and has the opportunity to win more championships if they accomplished that this conference.

I will not be surprised if you see it as a dumb decision if he really does it.

For me, I think he was serious.

First, we are already in the modern age and not at the traditional age. Technically, Terrence is not a millennial but the millennial thinking can be acquired. For modern young people, they are more about accomplishing many things as possible. They are easily swayed by trends and will be driven to follow them.

They are not engraved to any tradition. It is not about being the best sometimes or accomplishing a lot in one path. It is more about being happy accomplishing a lot of things in different ways of life.

Also, Terrence Romeo is single and has been feeding his family through basketball for a while now. By now, I think he has secured the future of his family. Being single and with a secured family, and without the marriage-driven responsibilities, the need for self-fulfillment increases.

If he is already fulfilled with his PBA career when he finally wins a crown, he has all the reason to fulfill himself with the other things that he desires.

I think the key statement from him was when he asked, "pwede namang bumalik ulit eh, di ba?"

It is a sign that the guy really wants to be refreshed. Maybe, the fire of playing basketball is slowly vanishing. By getting away from basketball, that may help the fire grown again.
