2019 Com. Cup Import Power Ranking 1.0: Brownlee or Jones?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

After almost a month of basketball action, only three imports have gone to the chopping block and one was replaced due to injury. It speaks a lot about the quality of this batch of reinforcements.

So, let us rank the imports of each team! Columbian will replace Kyle Barone so I did not add him already.

#11 Richard Howell - Phoenix
The debut performance of Richard was disastrous, 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4/12 FG. In his second game, he showcased his three-point shooting prowess. Unfortunately, he is still lacking in a lot of areas.

#10 John Fields - Magnolia
Fields only played a single game and it was really bad. He produced 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 turnovers and 4/11 FG against Alaska. The absence of an assist in his stat sheet is scary because players who cannot move the ball doesn't do well for winning basketball games.

#9 Charles Rhodes - San Miguel
In terms of plain abilities and skills, I do not think Rhodes deserved this spot. but his current impact on his team is pretty bad, even his performance. San Miguel was winless in their first two games. Just like Fields, his assists number is the biggest problem because he is playing for a team with a lot of capable scorers.

#8 Tony Mitchell - NLEX
Tony is currently the 3rd best scorer of the league at 31.0 points per game with 52% FG. Unfortunately, he is not really helping them in other areas which resulted in a winless card after their first five games.

#7 Chris Daniels - Alaska
An import doesn't need to produced awesome numbers to be really effective. Just look at Daniels who is putting up 20.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 52% FG, 44% 3FG, 2.2 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. Daniels is just putting up enough numbers to help out his team to win games.

#6 Prince Ibeh - North Port
Ibeh has been a perfect fit for the Batang Pier. Unlike a usual reinforcement, he is not here to score points but to grab rebounds, protect the rim and provide toughness for his team. He is currently the leading shot blocker at 3.6 per game and is very good in protecting the ball.

#5 Gani Lawal - Meralco
Gani is putting up monstrous numbers of 28.5 points, 22.0 rebounds and 56% FG per game. He is tied for the top spot in terms of rebounds. Unfortunately, his focus is too much about scoring and his defense is not that reliable, especially inside the paint.

#4 Denzel Bowles - Rain or Shine
The return of Denzel has been a success in their first four games. He is exhibiting the all-around prowess that helped the Purefoods franchise in the past. He is manufacturing 27.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.8 blocks and 54% FG per game. His power game is still his bread and butter. If his shooting from beyond the arc gets better, I expect his performance to get into another level.

#3 Alex Stephenson - Blackwater
Alex is not the primary option of the offense of the Elite and that is just fine because their guy is Bobby Ray Parks. Alex blended perfectly with what coach Aris Dimaunahan wanted as he averaged 22.2 points, 22.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 blocks and 54% FG per game. He has the ability to takeover the offense from Parks if his team needs it.

#2 Justin Brownlee - Ginebra
Brownlee is still his usual all-around deadly form. He is currently the 2nd best scorer in the conference at 33.3 points per game with 55% efficiency in the field and 44% from beyond the arc. His efficient scoring alone gives him an elite value in the PBA. Add his 6.0 assists per game and you have arguably the best offensive fulcrum this conference.

#1 Terrence Jones - TNT
Brownlee is so great which magnifies how good Terrence is. Terrence is the #1 scorer in the league with 34.2 points per game with 47% FG and 36% 3FG per game. Other than his scoring, he can also make plays for others as shown by his 4.8 assists per game. Overall, the biggest advantage of Terrence over Brownlee could be the fact that he can defend more positions better.
