PBA Trade Analysis - NLEX-NOR-TNT: Finally, Jericho Cruz is free!

Finally, TNT settled a trade to part ways with Jericho Cruz after two months of not playing Cruz. They settled for a three-team trade with NLEX Road Warriors and North Port Batang Pier.

The trade is a little bit complicated but it ended up like this:
NLEX received: Jericho Cruz, Northport 2020 2nd
NLEX sent: Marion Magat, 2019 PHX 2nd, 2020 DYIP 2nd
TNT received: Marion Magat, 2020 NOR 2nd, 2021 NOR 2nd, 2022 NOR 2022 2nd
TNT sent: Jericho Cruz, Michael Miranda
Northport received: Michael Miranda, 2019 PHX 2nd, 2020 DYIP 2nd
Northport sent: 2020 NOR 2nd, 2021 NOR 2nd, 2022 NOR 2022 2nd

What do you think, is the trade fair? The answer is yes. Jericho Cruz is a quality starter but what TNT did to him pushed his trade value to the lowest possible point. Northport got an equal value for what they gave up and TNT got what they deserved.

Michael Miranda is a nice pick up for them. Although, there are subsequent rumors that Miranda may be bound to return to NLEX after this conference. Other than Miranda, that 2020 Dyip 2nd rounder may end up as a top 3 2nd round pick in a projected loaded 2020 draft. Overall, this trade did not the Batang Pier that much.

Acquiring Marion Magat is a good idea for TNT. He can block shots and hit three-pointers. That is the right combination for a three-point crazy Tropang Texters. They are currently 8th in terms of blocks and almost all their centers are not efficient from beyond the arc. Although, what they did to the trade value of Jericho is still an awful move for them. Cruz has the skills to net a 1st round pick and TNT managed to reduce that value to the point that they ended up with two 2nd round picks.

NLEX gave Marion Magat, they signed him as a free agent, and a 2nd round pick for Cruz. If we consider the fact that Magat is a free agent signee, they basically traded a single 2nd round pick for Cruz! Yes, NLEX won this three-team exchange by a wide margin. Actually, NLEX badly needs a starting caliber guard so trading for Cruz was a no-brainer! I expect Cruz to solidify himself as a starting caliber guard, right away.
