2019 Com. Cup Prediction: Will Ginebra tie the series in game 2?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

I am hoping game 1 is the precursor of things to come because that will be a hell of a series! Both teams came with good game plans. Both their offense and defense clicked.

Ironic? What I am trying to say is, both teams found ways to score points against the tough defense of both teams.

Game 2 is crucial. If TNT wins, they will hold a thrice-to-beat advantage. If Ginebra ties the series, we are down to best-of-three.

What will happen in game 2?

Let us predict.

Ginebra put different faces against Terrence Jones. They tried their most versatile defender, Justin Brownlee. Of course, Joe Devance got a lot of opportunities too. And of course, you also saw that LA Tenorio was given a chance to disrupt him.

By trying a lot of players, Ginebra helps themselves in the series because they learned his tendencies against different types of defenders. During that game, of course, that disrupted the fluidity of their defensive play.

On the other hand, TNT sticks a lot with Anthony Semerad against Justin Brownlee. What happened was, Brownlee managed to adjust by becoming more of a facilitator and an overall glue guy on their offense.

The outside shooting of TNT clicked in game 1. They connected on 14 of 36 tries. That helped TNT keep up with Ginebra and provided extra spaces to penetrate during the 4th quarter. The good news for TNT is that Pogoy was hitting long bombs again after going 0 out of 10 in the quarterfinals!

Now, which team will win in game 2?

I am going with Ginebra. I think their defense was more sustainable because TNT is more predictable on offense. No local players standout for the Barangay which is an indication that someone is bound to have a good game.
