The Breakout Players of 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup

Even though imports arrived to take a lot of shots, playing time and plays from our local players, these Filipino ballers still managed to breakout!

These are the players who produced better numbers this conference compared to the Philippine Cup and even in their career.

Rober Bolick
In the Philippine Cup, Bolick was inconsistent. He provided us with awesome games but he has a lot of single-digit scoring performances. He ended up averaging 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 37% FG and 25% 3FG per game.

This conference, he is not playing like a rookie anymore. Bolick is manufacturing 16.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 43% FG and 35% 3FG per game. What I love about Bolick is his ability to play either on-the-ball or off-the-ball. He is reliable on catch-and-shoot opportunities and also has a credible first step to reach the rim.

CJ Perez
I have this feeling that the arrival of Bobby Ray Parks Jr. ignited something inside of CJ Perez. Perez was already fantastic in the Philippine Cup. He produced 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, 40% FG and 27% 3FG per game.

Replicating that this conference would have been pleasing already but the Baby Beast actually got into another level. He is now averaging 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.9 steals, 52% FG and 35% 3FG per game. It is really amazing that he managed to improve his efficiency in the conference where foreign players are present because those guys provide a much harder challenge, especially at the paint.

Kevin Ferrer
This one is a no-brainer. Yes, the sample size of three games should make this a questionable pick but what we saw in the court was legit. Last conference, when he was treated as a role player in a very loaded Ginebra squad, Ferrer tallied 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 47% FG and 28% 3FG in 19.4 minutes per game.

Now with Northport where they gave him the green light and the focus of the scheme, he is producing 17.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 41% FG and 40% 3FG per game. If he can keep up his efficiency from beyond the arc, I expect him to sustain this form.
