2019 PBA Post Com. Cup: The Best Trade Asset of Northport, Rain or Shine, Magnolia

(c) PBA Media Bureau

Let us continue providing the best trade assets of the eliminated teams. When I say #1 trade asset, this is the player that will provide the most value to them. It is not only about how loaded is the possible return but also about how impactful will be their departure to their current team.

Today, we will tackle Northport, Rain or Shine and Magnolia.

Northport - Sol Mercado
Knowing the pedigree of a Sol Mercado, I do believe he has pretty good trade value around the league. Remember, he was considered by coach Tim Cone as the best on-ball defensive guard in the PBA.

Now for Northport, he is more of a luxury than a necessity because they do have good and hardworking defenders in Paolo Taha, Kevin Ferrer and even Nico Elorde is a proven pest. If done correctly, they can actually package Sol with a 1st round pick or one of their starters to get an upgrade in one of their non-guard positions.

Rain or Shine - Maverick Ahanmisi
When Jericho Cruz was traded, Maverick was supposed to be the guy to be the next top guard of the Elasto Painters franchise. Unfortunately, the injury bug is quite hard on him. Fortunately for Rain or Shine, Rey Nambatac broke out and they found that Ed Daquioag and Kris Rosales are reliable.

Even though Maverick did not play this conference, I do not have any doubt that a lot of teams still see him as an up-and-coming great guard. Rain or Shine may want to take advantage of that.

Magnolia - Marc Pingris
Pingris is one of the most popular players in the PBA. That pumps his trade value over what he really brings to the court. If Hotshots in the past can sacrifice their face of the franchise, James Yap, to move on to their future, there is a good chance that they can do it again. I do not think Pingris can still get them a starting-caliber big if it is a swap but they can put him on the right package to get the right guy.
