We entered 2019 with no assurance that we will be part of the 2019 FIBA World Cup. We entered 2019 after witnessing a brawl that sent a lot of our players into suspensions. We entered 2019 with a lot of hopes that this will be a better year for our national team.
And then, we finally got a ticket to the world cup. And then, controversies escalated. Big name players came up with reasons not to be part of the team. Some of the reasons where accepted by the fans, some where prosecuted.
All of that doesn't matter now. We now have our twelve valiant men that will give their best to give honor to our country.
The first task at hand is Italy. The game will happen this Saturday. This is the most important game for our team. If we loss this one, all our hopes for a miracle will end. There is no way we could beat Serbia. And a 1-2 record is not enough to be part of stage 2 of the tournament.
That is the reason why I am very positive that we will beat Italy. I am not predicting a victory because we have the better talent because that is not true. I am not predicting a victory because we have a full preparation, because that is far from what they did. If we count all the days of their practice, I am not even sure if it will accumulate into a month.
I am predicting a victory because I simply want to be positive. As an amateur blogger, the best thing that I could contribute to our cause is to be positive. That way, I can encourage other fans to be positive.
We have reached the point that we need to do this things because we cannot trust SBP and the PBA already to give us the best team possible and the best preparation that our team could get.
So, we need to follow the lead of our President, Rodrigo Duterte who did his part. He gave them a real talk and that is actually a much better motivation than being an ironic and dismissive believer of our chances.
So, join me in believing that we could beat Italy!
