PBA Trade Rumor: The right trade package for Greg Slaughter

(c) PBA Media Bureau

As usual, the semifinals exit of Brgy. Ginebra created a stir in the PBA universe. A lot of trade discussions were rumored and the biggest of the bunch involves the biggest player in the league, Greg Slaughter.

Now, if Ginebra decides to part ways with him, what should be the package that they should ask for?

Here it is.

A STARTING CALIBER GIANT
If they give up Greg, it is a must that they get a center in return. To be more specific, they need a giant center. Now, there is only a handful of gigantic centers that they can target. I am talking about Moala Tautuaa, Christian Standhardinger, Ian Sangalang, Norbert Torres, Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Sonny Thoss.

Why do they need a giant center?

Because if they lose Greg, their frontline rotation will be Japeth Aguilar, Joe Devance, Prince Caperal and Raymond Aguilar. Although the height is there, the size and depth of the rotation are lacking. Now, one more key difference that they can target will be the giant centers with a three-point shot. In the list above, we have Moala Tautuaa, Norbert Torres and Rabeh Al-Hussaini. Three-point shooting has been their need in the past several years.

A GUARD OR A 1ST ROUND PICK
If we are talking about Torres, Rabeh or Thoss, Ginebra should, of course, ask for one or two 1st round picks.

Now, Tautuaa, Standhardinger and Sangalang are arguably on equal value with a Greg Slaughter. If that is the case, Ginebra should still work it out that they get a quality guard. Someone who is above average on defense.

EXAMPLE
For example, Rain or Shine and Ginebra will work out a deal. The package that Rain or Shine should give up will be:
Norbert Torres
2019 1st round pick
JJ Alejandro

Torres is slowly getting his groove in the league but he is still not as good as Greg. So, a 1st round pick and Alejandro should be part of the deal.
