2019 Gov. Cup Import Power Ranking 1.0: Who is the best challenger of Brownlee?

(c) PBA Media Bureau

The foreign players will surely be the backbone of the competition for this conference. So, let me give my first power ranking of the imports.

#12 Alaska - Justin Watts
I was not impressed with the resume that he brought to the PBA. Maybe, he was not only given enough opportunity on the other leagues that he joined but numbers do not lie.

#11 Northport - Mychal Ammons
They want to see him be a defensive dynamo just like their last import, Prince Ibeh. That could be their best hope for him because offensively, he is nothing special.

#10 NLEX - Olu Ashaolu
He could be the opposite of an Ammons. He is special on the offensive end. He can score against anybody. But can he make the right passes and how much can he contribute on the defensive end.

#9 Columbian - Khapri Alstron
He is my dark horse import. I am putting him here for now because of his resume but with his body and his playing style, he could easily be the second coming of Allen Durham.

#8 Rain or Shine - Joel Wright
He put up awesome numbers in his first stint in the PBA. He is an experience international import with a lot of skills. If he can put up the same numbers as before, he will surely rise in this ranking.

#7 Phoenix - Eugene Phelps
If you feel like this is pretty low for a Phelps, I feel the same too. He will surely be one, if not the best slasher again in the conference. I am still hoping that his shooting will finally show up because that could easily catapult him at the top of the division.

#6 San Miguel - Dez Wells
Watching him on the Terrific 12, I saw an athletic freak that could easily dominate the PBA. Although, I do not want to put him over four of the established imports in the PBA.

#5 Blackwater - Marqus Blakely
If he can put up the same numbers that he did with TNT and deliver some Ws, Blakely will make a case as the best import again. Especially if he can maintain his shooting from the outside.

#4 Meralco - Allen Durham
This feels low for Durham who has been a fixture at the top of scoring and even assists for this conference. He will once again carry the Meralco Bolts, hoping to finally get the crown.

#3 Magnolia - Romeo Travis
I was pessimistic about him last year because I failed to understand his value on defense and his fit on the offensive scheme of Magnolia. He will need to have his shooting if he wants to have a chance at the top two of this ranking.

#2 TNT - KJ McDaniels
As expected, he was dominant in the Terrific 12. It was pretty obvious that his athleticism is on another level. To fully maximize TNT, he will need to adapt and be a kickout passer more than what he use to do.

#1 Ginebra - Justin Brownlee
In terms of pedigree and skillset, Brownlee deserves to have the #1 spot for our first ranking. We just saw him go toe-to-toe with Terrence Jones in the Commissioner's Cup, so I do not expect anything less for this conference.
