2019 PBA Gov. Cup Power Ranking: SMB or Ginebra, which one is the favorite?

So, we are few days away from the beginning of the last conference of the 2019 season. KJ McDaniels will lead an impressive set of reinforcements that will surely make this conference as interesting as the last conference.

So, how should we rank the teams before the start of the season? Let us see!

#12 Columbian Dyip
CJ Perez just legitimized himself as a franchise player in his first two conferences and in the recent FIBA World Cup. Him alone though will not be enough for the Dyip to do something this conference.

#11 NLEX Road Warriors
The absence of coach Yeng Guiao in their preparation this conference and the fact that Kiefer Ravena will take sometime to get back into his old deadly groove are the huge road blocks that NLEX should overcome.

#10 Phoenix Fuel Masters
Eugene Phelps is one of the most powerful foreign players that has played in the PBA this decade. Unfortunately, the absence of Calvin Abueva will continue to haunt them.

#9 Northport Batang Pier
The addition of Jerramy King and Russel Escoto will make the line-up of the Batang Pier, one of the deepest in the league. But their import may end up to be a bad fit for them and will cause them their playoff aspirations.

#8 Meralco Bolts
It is hard for me to bet against Allen Durham but the performance of the Bolts this season is just awful. One thing that could prove me wrong is the possible increase in the production of Raymond Almazan.

#7 Alaska Aces
If the rumors are true, choosing Jeffrey Cariaso as the replacement for coach Alex Compton may not be a very popular decision in the Alaska organization. That is a sign that the drama in Alaska may not be over.

#6 Blackwater Elite
Yes, I am very high about the Elite. The fact that Bobby Ray Parks is still there and they just added a very good three-point shooter in Carl Bryan Cruz makes them a dark horse for a deep playoff-run. I am also a fan with the fit of Marqus Blakely with their current line-up.

#5 Rain or Shine Elasto Painters
Joel Wright was impressive in his first stint in the PBA. Let us hope he can translate that to more wins with Rain or Shine. Now that Jerrick Ahanmisi is not in the line-up, their guard hierarchy is much clearer.

#4 TNT Ka Tropa
This is a little bit tough because I expect KJ McDaniels to be an impactful player in the upcoming conference. Unfortunately, his inability to hit outside shots may make his fit with TNT, questionable.

#3 Magnolia Hotshots
Even though they are the defending champion, it is hard to put them over their brothers because San Miguel and Ginebra improved their line-up. While Hotshots remained the same.

#2 San Miguel Beermen
I believed the Beermen are more motivated and focus this season in completing their grandslam. Although, last conference showed that they are not as dominant as their roster suggests.

#1 Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel
Coach Tim Cone just got a month with Ginebra-plus-Stanley-Pringle line-up. That will surely magnify the performance of their team for this conference. Add the fact that they are pressured to win a championship and I think Ginebra is the best bet to win the crown.

  2. I would not place Blackwater ahead of Northport and Meralco.. they should be in the 8th-9th spots.. ahead of Columbian, Phoenix, NLEX and even Alaska.. I agree that Ginebra should be the favorites this conference.
