Even though we did not enter the 2019 FIBA World Cup with big hopes, like reaching the semifinals and we did not even expect to be part of the round 2. Nobody saw us losing all our games and nobody imagined that the average margin will be 29.4.
Yes, we ended up as the last place of the 2019 edition of the FIBA World Cup. We can never erased that now from the history books.
PBA and SBP will once again assessed what happened. I expect them to once again say the right things to temper the pain that the fans suffered and especially the players.
One thing that should be talked about is the head coaching position of our national team.
Yes, I understand that we should minimize the blame that we put into coach Yeng Guiao's plate. But, with what we saw, I think we can all agree that coach Yeng is a deserving national team coach but there are better options.
So, who are the better options?
I think, we can point to three coaches; coach Tab Baldwin, coach Tim Cone and coach Chot Reyes. Overall, there are other deserving coaches out there but it is hard to say if they are available.
Now, out of coach Tab, coach Tim and coach Chot, the best choice is coach Chot. Not because he is better than coach Tim or coach Tab, but because he is the most available. He is not coaching any team, which gives him maximum time to handle our national team.
Yes, I heard him in the past that he is not planning to return to Gilas. But, with what he saw in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, I am hoping he will reconsider.
