Will PBA listen to coach Yeng and end the three-conference format?

Finally, someone that has first hand information of the problem in our Gilas national team has suggested of shortening the PBA season. I have been vocal about this for my entire blogging career.

The three-conference format has positive effects to the league but the net effect of it to Philippine basketball is negative.

Because of the historical connection to this format, the PBA is having a hard time going back to the two-conference format. They really believe that the Filipinos really wants to watch PBA games 11-months a year.

When it is pretty obvious that the NBA schedule works better for majority of the Filipino fans. And that it is pretty obvious that NBA is now more popular to the Philippine basketball universe even though there is a four months break in the offseason.

PBA heads may think that the reason is the fact that the best players in the world is playing in the NBA, so that schedule works. I hope they realize that, that is only one of the reasons why Filipinos love the NBA.

I hope they realized that because NBA only has a single championship every year the fans are more engage in knowing and not missing out in the competition towards that crown. The prestige of that title is way more higher than the three titles in a single season format of the PBA. Rivalries are created because the defeats that team suffered mean more in context than the defeats that PBA teams suffered.

In short, wins and losses are way more memorable in the NBA than in the PBA.

And of course, the three-conference format hinders the proper preparation for our national team. Now that the newly-resigned coach, who saw our national team suffer a last place finish in the FIBA World Cup, has spoken. The ball is now on the hands of the PBA if they will listen.
