2019 PBA Gov. Cup Import Power Ranking! Durham versus Brownlee!

(c) PBA Media Bureau

As expected, the imports showed up in the quarterfinals. Romeo Travis, Mike Harris, Franko House and John Holland did their part. Michael Qualls, Allen Durham, Justin Brownlee and KJ McDaniels delivered victories.

How should we rank the eight reinforcements that reached the playoffs?

Here it is!

#8 San Miguel - John Holland (Previous Rank: #12)
We never saw the real John Holland. For three games, he never got his rhythm and never impacted the game the way his predecessor did, Dez Wells. Nevertheless, we all know by now that, that alone was not the reason of the demise of the Beermen.

#7 Alaska - Franko House (Previous Rank: #10)
In terms of skills, House is no way near the level of his fellows in this ranking. But he was the perfect import that Alaska needed. He was an athlete and he delivered.

#6 Northport - Michael Qualls (Previous Rank: #8)
I believed #6 does not justify how good Qualls is but the five other players above are just better overall or has better impact than him. Qualls averaged 33.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.

#5 Magnolia - Romeo Travis (Previous Rank: #6)
Romeo did not get it and he made sure that the PBA universe will know that he was baffled by what happened again in the quarterfinals. They got a huge lead and ended up losing. His 32 points, 26 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals went for nothing.

#4 NLEX - Manny Harris (Previous Rank: #2)
Is it coincidence that NLEX started sliding when Harris' production were also on the downtrend? Maybe not. Harris is still one of the most skilled import in the Governors' Cup and will surely get another call next year.

#3 Ginebra - Justin Brownlee (Previous Rank: #3)
This is ridiculous, right? Yes. Brownlee should not be a #3 import! But if you weight everything; production, importance in the team and team performance, I think Brownlee cannot be part of the top 2 for now.

#2 TNT - KJ McDaniels (Previous Rank: #1)
KJ killed it in this tournament. The most surprising skill that he brought into the PBA is his shooting. If NBA teams took notice, I expect him to return to the NBA as early as next year. KJ averaged 37.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 3.5 blocks, 54% FG and 39% 3FG per game.

#1 Meralco - Allen Durham (Previous Rank: #4)
Meralco has reached the semifinals again in the Governors' Cup. It is very clear why. Durham completed their team. Even though his production is not comparable to KJ and Justin, if you add weight of his importance to Meralco and their semifinals appearance, he is the most deserving guy for this spot.
