PBA Free-Agency: San Miguel added shooters!

Even though the San Miguel Beermen is already the most loaded team in the league, they are still doing their due diligence in filling up the 14th and 15th spot of their line-up.

They just did that by signing Wendell Comboy and Gelo Alolino to one-year contracts. Did they sign the right guys?

Wendell Comboy
Wendell was the 23rd pick in the 2019 PBA draft by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters but was not signed. So, he went and tried his luck with the Beermen.

Comboy is a shooter and I actually saw him as a legit potential steal of the 2019 draft because of his shooting ability, especially off-the-ball. If he can be consistent, especially in locating open spots and hitting threes, he should be a vital minute-eater for the Beermen.

Gelo Alolino
Alolino is more intriguing because he has shown what he can do in his first three years in the PBA. He played two seasons with Phoenix Fuel Masters and then was traded to Blackwater Elite.

He is pretty skilled for a wing. He can shoot, defend and even handle the ball. His shooting is not that consistent but if he can build that up, he will become a reliable 3-and-D for San Miguel.

Both players are added not to become starters for the Beermen or not even to become the main back-ups.

That said, if I will add a 14th and a 15th guy in the roster of the Beermen, getting a shooter and a multi-faceted wing feels good.

Grade: B (for both)
