PBA Free-Agency: TNT adds a Bigman! And Mercado is available?

I think, this offseason is one of the busiest free-agency season for the PBA. This could easily be a preview of the upcoming first batch of Unrestricted Free-Agency in 2021.

So, let us talk about two of the latest happenings!

Sol Mercado
Mercado was traded by Northport to Phoenix for LA Revilla and Rey Guevarra. It seems like, Phoenix may have done that just to save some money. According to Sol's agent, Phoenix has instructed them that Sol should not attend the practices yet of Phoenix as they try to fix their line-up.

That doesn't fit well with what coach Louie Alas said in acquiring Sol. He said that they acquired Sol, Brian Heruela and Jake Pascual  to improve their defense. And if we talk about defense, that has been the main offering of Sol for a while.

If Sol ends up as a free-agent, it is easy to assume that he will return to Ginebra but according to a credible source, Ginebra is not interested in getting him back.

Technically, Sol is not yet a free-agent. Phoenix will be the one to decide if they are going to put him as an unrestricted free-agent.

TNT signs Lervin Flores
After getting a plethora of guards, TNT finally grab a bigman in Lervin Flores. Unfortunately, he may not have the capability to play center because he is only 6'5 and not the strongest. What he adds though is versatility and athleticism.

If TNT continue to push for a modern brand of basketball, there is a good chance that Lervin will be successful with them. One thing that Lervin should start improving is his shooting from beyond the arc. If he adds that, Lervin can easily be a super lite version of Troy Rosario.
