PBA Trade Analysis: Is Rain or Shine the best trading team in the league?

Rain or Shine is killing it in the trade table. After getting two first round picks for Raymond Almazan, a serviceable guard and a first round pick for Maverick Ahanmisi, Rain or Shine will now take home three second round picks for Ed Daquioag.

Was the trade fair? To be honest, it is not. Ed was basically a role player for Rain or Shine. Yes, he is young and has good potential because of his athleticism but three second round picks is just too much for me.

TEAM ANALYSIS
TNT
Received: Ed Daquioag
Sent: 2020 TNT 2nd, 2021 NOR 2nd, 2022 SMB 2nd

It seems like TNT will continue to play small-ball in the upcoming season. I think Ed will be the apprentice of Ryan Reyes as he will try to be the future lockdown defender of the team. Ed has the tools to be that guy and even be better because of his better athleticism.

Nonetheless, TNT could have gotten similar type of players for lower cost or even in the free-agency. I am talking about Gab Banal or Jansen Rios.

RAIN OR SHINE
Received: 2020 TNT 2nd, 2021 NOR 2nd, 2022 SMB 2nd
Sent: Ed Daquioag

For Rain or Shine to get three second round picks for a young role player is a heist! Ed averaged 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 40% FG and 30% 3FG per game. The trade was obviously a way for them to open up roster spots for their 2019 guard and wing draftees of Adrian Wong, Clint Doliguez and Vince Tolentino.

I will not be shock if two of those three can turn out to be better positive players than Ed during their rookie season because Ed is so inefficient.

For an independent team, getting extra 2nd round picks means getting opportunity to get cheaper players that could save them money.
