PBA Trade Rumors: Let us start a #StandWithNorthport Movement

There are things that are inevitable in this world. The number one is of course change. The number two is taxes. Maybe the third is, Northport stars will always be sent to an SMC team?

I do not think any PBA fan out there will actually dispute that claim. Even though Robert Bolick made a great impression in his rookie season and currently on the sideline due to an injury, everyone believes that he is bound for an SMC team.

Of course, the person who is reading this is already excited or nervous about the ''upcoming'' Standhardinger to SMC team.

But wait. Rumblings around the league are getting stronger that Christian Standhardinger actually wants to remain with Northport. Yes, Christian could be saying no to Ginebra!

Is he the first one to do that?

And I strongly believe that, that is the right thing to happen for the league. Not only because of parity but I actually think that Standhardinger can actually make a Northport a legit franchise in the league.

Legit franchise? What I mean is, keeping him on Northport will slowly erase the dents of being a farm team. It will not happen in a single year. Maybe, two years may not even be enough. But steps toward it are crucial for the future of the league.

And, I think Standhardinger alone can actually build the fan base of the Batang Pier. Unlike Terrence Romeo, the playing style of Christian is easier to embrace for Filipinos. Unlike Terrence, Christian is the kind of a franchise player that you would love to root for.

What I am trying to say is simple. If there is a basketball player that is worth it for Northport to cut their ties from San Miguel Corporation, I think Christian is that guy.

So, let Stand with Northport.

  3. I agree. To at least have some measure of parity in the PBA, Standhardinger should stay put at Northport.. If you put him with the power house teams that also have their own established bigmen, i.e., SMB and Ginebra, this shifts the balance of the teams and affects the PBA.
