2021 PBA Draft: Should Thirdy Ravena, be banned from entering the PBA?

Yes. The title is not wrong. I am talking about the 2021 PBA draft because that will be the draft that could be affected if Thirdy decides not to enter the 2020 PBA draft.

The controversial rule states that eligible rookies who will not put their name into the PBA draft pool for two straight years will be banned from entering the PBA.

There is a process though for re-consideration and that will be the process that Thirdy should go through if he wants to join the league in the future.

Now, why will Thirdy Ravena skip the draft for two straight years?

According to him, he wants to achieve his dream of playing international basketball. Especially now that he has received offers from Australia, Japan and Italy.

Now, is that enough to be exempted from the controversial rule?

I think that should go through a delicate process of determining if he was telling the truth and will not only play overseas until the team or conglomerate that he wants to be with is already capable of picking him.

First, let him sign a contract with a team overseas. That is the first indication that he was true to his words. As long as he is playing in an overseas league, he should be exempted from that rule because that was the reason for him not applying.

Now, the thorough process should happen once he applies for the draft. Is he being projected at the top of the draft? If that is the case, is the company that he is connected with, are capable of drafting him? If the answer is yes, find out if it was only a coincidence. If not, then there should be a doubt about him skipping the draft in the past even though he fulfilled his desire of playing overseas.

If that is the case, they should consider banning him for that draft but not in the next one to fulfill the spirit of the rule.
