The two biggest questions about the 2020 FIBA Gilas 12 versus Indonesia

This Sunday, our Gilas Pilipinas will face Indonesia in their first game of the FIBA Asian Cup 2021 Qualifiers. The pool was announced last Wednesday and here is a look on our depth chart.

Center - JP Erram, Isaac Go, Justin Chua
Forward - Troy Rosario, Abu Tratter, Dwight Ramos
Wing - CJ Perez, RR Pogoy, Thirdy Ravena, Matt Nieto
Point Guard - Kiefer Ravena, Juan Gomez de Liano

At their reserves are Javee Mocon, Jaydee Tungcab and Rey Suerte. Allyn Bulanadi and Mike Nieto also failed to make the cut.

Overall, I do not have a problem with the line-up because it is young and it will be against a team that we should easily defeat. Experience is important in building-up International players.

But I have two controversial questions about it.

WHERE ARE THE 2019 GILAS DRAFTEES?
In the 2019 PBA draft, a Gilas draft happened wherein five prospects were taken by Gilas as part of the pool and those five will not be allowed to play for their mother clubs.

So, only two of those five were chosen to play against Indonesia?

So, what is the point then of restricting them from playing for their mother club if they cannot even make the line-up in a game against a weak team? Also, how did Dwight Ramos and Juan  Gomez de Liano got spots ahead of them, when both are still on the Collegiate level?

I understand that those two guys are blue-chip prospects. There is a good chance that Ramos and Juan will end up as better players than Mike Nieto, Allyn Bulanadi and Rey Suerte but I am willing to bet that at least two of those Gilas draftees will still be better players when the 2023 FIBA World Cup happens.

WHERE IS JAVEE MOCON?
Mocon ended up as the lone PBA player in the pool that did not make the final 12. When asked about it, coach Mark Dickel explained that Thirdy Ravena and Dwight Ramos already covered the position.

He is basically implying that Thirdy and Dwight are more deserving of playing time than Mocon. And that is ridiculous.

Yes. Javee is not as athletic as Thirdy and Dwight but to say that those younger guys are better than Javee is not true. Just the mere fact that Mocon is a better three-point shooter than Thirdy and Dwight should have been enough for him to take a spot.

Maybe, they did it to provide more development time for the younger Thirdy and Dwight, who is coincidentally connected to Ateneo. But wait, Mocon is only 25 years old too. The age difference should not be a factor in deciding between the three because all of them are still young.

I just hope that Javee will take this as a challenge and continue to hone his skills to be more deserving of a Gilas spot in the future.

  1. This way my partner Wesley Virgin's autobiography starts with this SHOCKING and controversial VIDEO.

As a matter of fact, Wesley was in the army-and soon after leaving-he revealed hidden, "mind control" tactics that the government and others used to get anything they want.

THESE are the exact same methods tons of famous people (especially those who "come out of nothing") and the greatest business people used to become wealthy and famous.

You probably know how you use only 10% of your brain.

Really, that's because most of your BRAINPOWER is UNTAPPED.

Perhaps this expression has even occurred INSIDE your very own head... as it did in my good friend Wesley Virgin's head 7 years ago, while driving a non-registered, beat-up trash bucket of a car with a suspended driver's license and in his pocket.

"I'm absolutely frustrated with living paycheck to paycheck! When will I get my big break?"

You took part in those thoughts, ain't it right?
